CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Excellen Browning
Character Canon: Super Robot Wars: Original Generation
History: Here
AU History: Excellen was born in Caldera to a pair of soldiers in the Steel Battalion. Her father a high-ranking commander within his division and her mother a special operations officer, much of her early years were spent being taken care of by extended family. However, when her mother was killed in action, her father, becoming quite aware of the fact that, should he continue to fight on the front lines, his daughter might end up without much of a family to speak of, requested and was granted work as a civil servant.
Due to her family history, as well as a natural aptitude and early awakening as an Earthkin, Excellen was enrolled in the city's military academy. She blossomed there, showing great promise both as a combatant as well as an Engineer in her own right. Due to her typing and uncanny understanding of combat strategy and tactics, she was groomed for special operations, and as a sniper.
However, her time as a student was nearly cut tragically short. During her early teenage years, during a routine exercise outside of Caldera, her convoy was attacked, the group devastated. There were only two surviors: Kyosuke Nanbu, a young Calderan cadet, and Excellen. While the former was aided by his typing and ability as an Earthkin, by all rights Excellen should have died that day.
In many ways, she did.
Luck would have it that the convoy was attacked close enough to Sanctuary that the two survivors could be taken there for treatment. Assuming that the young woman was on her last breath, the healers that worked on her thought nothing of trying more than a few unorthodox methods to keep her alive. It was true that she was not a Gigan soldier, but live Calderan specimens were so had to come by. They could fix her. Make her better. What was the harm when she was practically already dead?
Practically rebuilding her body, Excellen stayed with the "healers" for nearly a year, unaware of what she had become. There was no reason to believe that anything was wrong and, after making a full, miraculous recovery, she returned to Caldera to continue her cadet training. Graduating just shy of her eighteenth birthday, she moved between various divisions before finally being placed under Thorin Oakenshield.
Finding Kyosuke Nanbu's name on the manifest in another division shortly after her own transfer, she requested Kyosuke be transferred as well. When asked why, she was quite elusive. Moving through the Steel Battalion ranks, she, along with a few others from her division, found themselves temporarily transferred to Union as part of their exchange program.
Canon Personality: Excellen is many things. Perky, bubbly and more than a bit nosy. Rambunctious, flirtatious and more than a bit of a tease. Extremely observant, intelligent and motherly. Some of these things don't necessarily lend themselves to each other, but Excellen is a bit of a hard person to define in broad terms, even by her closest friends and colleagues. She almost never shows her full hand, always keeping a trump card in her back pocket, and it's hard to say what sort of woman she really is unless you are one of the few she allows in.
On the surface, Excellen is a ridiculously happy, happy-go-lucky woman. She enjoys the company of people, and seeks them out whenever possible. A social butterfly, she makes friends very quickly--sometimes much quicker than what some might like. And her friends? Obviously need all of her attention. This attention can take many forms, be it clinging to or hanging off them, teasing them or flirting with them relentlessly. She's shameless, really. Anything to get a reaction, especially from the uptight ones. They're her favorites. She is more than a bit of a nerd. Otaku. Pop culture geek. That's definitely her. It isn't uncommon for her to make somewhat meta, fourth-wall comments during combat, or to make "innocent" observations.
Outside of her relentless teasing, Excellen loves deeply and unconditionally. She trusts, perhaps a bit too easily, and takes care of those that she trusts. She is easily willing to forgive, in the right circumstances. But, more than that, she looks out for those who cannot look out for themselves, or have come about hard times. You get decreased teasing, if only temporarily. She'll help you get back on your feet. Then, well, all bets are off again.
While she comes off as carefree, this disguises a very sharp mind. Ridiculously intelligent, Excellen hedges on genius-level intelligence, reprogramming the Weiss Ritter without previous assistance within the first few hours of piloting it. A tactical powerhouse, she has a quiet side--and it is when this side comes out that others should pay attention. She is slow to anger, and often works a few steps ahead of her enemies, so it is at times when she is caught by surprise that others should gives pause. Showing her hand gives her opponents an advantage, and that is something she will not allow. If she stops joking during battle, take notice.
That being said, there is something that will, without fail, affect her negatively. The accident. It affects her far more than she lets on. The fact that Kyosuke doesn't remember her bothers her as well, although she would never admit to that. It isn't something she likes to talk about, and when it is bought up in conversation, she tends to steer it in another direction. This is a memory she does not want to relive.
Above all else, she is a trusted friend and compatriot on the battlefield. A fierce friend, lover and combatant, she does her very best to not let a single person down.
AU Deviation: BNW Excellen comes from a city where fighting is a part of everyday life. While the finer details of her early life outside of the accident are left unclear in OU (safe for a few off-hand comments), it can be assumed that, based upon the setting, Excellen's reason for enlisting are extremely different. Aliens do not exist in the same context in BNW's setting, and while she will have gone under extreme experimentation, Excellen is still human, although extremely altered.
Tech levels are also significantly lower in BNW-verse, with a severe lack of mechs. As a result, she is extremely close to her pokemon partners, to the point that they are practically family. She does still keep in contact with her father, having a somewhat stronger bond to him as a result of the tensions between Caldera and Gigas than she does in original canon. She writes to him quite often.
In addition, some of the instability from the experimentation will linger, albeit severely dampened, which is quite a bit different from canon. While she is a homunculus by plot standards only, she does possess a bit of a heightened battle lust, and will occasionally need to step away to calm herself down.
Canon Abilities: Excellen, due an accident earlier in life, is 80% Einst, a highly intelligent, Borg-like alien species. They have been known to display such abilities as teleportation and telepathy, however, outside of when the Einst connect with Excellen, she seems to be otherwise normal.
As the pilot of the Weissritter (and later the Rein Weissritter), Excellen's reflexes are top-notch. This is necessary in a mecha like the Weissritter, which, unlike normal Gespensts, is extremely fragile. She excels at long-range, tactical combat. Along with this, she is highly intelligent, particularly when it comes to strategic maneuvers as well as feats of engineering, although one would never know it with how she acts normally. It is unclear whether or not this has to do with her Einst side or not.
Within the games, Excellen has a number of pilot skills at her disposal:
Enlightened Abilities: Excellen will begin as a Flying/Normal Engineer.
Relatively speaking, she is somewhat underwhelming in raw firepower through her first evolution. Much of her Enlightened abilities funnel into her flying typing, particularly into speed. Possessing abilities similar to Agility and Double Team, much of Excellen's offensive prowess comes from the Ochstan Launcher, a weapon of her own creation. She is able to hover off the ground upwards of three feet.
Not much will change during her first evolution. Her speed stat will see a slight increase, and she will be able to float up to seven feet in the air. She gains abilities similar to Swords Dance, Taunt and Lucky Chant.
Excellen's second evolution, which will be triggered at level 55 with a player plot, will trigger her dormant homunculus powers. She will see a drastic change in appearance, eyes turning bright red when she uses any of her abilities. Her hair will streak blue and purple, and she will gain bat-like wings, which she can use to fly. Her typing will also change to Ghost/Flying. Her speed stat will spike significantly, and gains the ability to create afterimages. She will also gain moves similar to Hyper Beam, Extreme Speed, Ominous Wind, Shadow Ball, Shadow Sneak and Shadow Force.
Starter Pokémon: Goomy and Lillipup.
Notes/Special Considerations: I've already spoken to Kite and Void to approve Excellen's connection to Thorin and Kyosuke (who is being apped in). In addition, I would like to have her come in with an enhanced weapon, the Ochstan Launcher. It's a large rifle that fires Steel-type bullets.
SAMPLES
First-Person: TDM (There should be enough comments to cover first and third, but I'll put some questions below just in case.)
Third-Person:
What would you say the role of Pokémon is in your life?
I couldn't do anything without my adorable pokémon with me! Slimer and Lil Pup have been with me for years, I can't imagine not having them with me.
What do you seek for humanity’s future?
I want to end the fighting. I almost lost both my parents to it. That's not any way for a kid to grow up, worrying about if they'll lose their parents.
What aspects and traits do you respect most in your individual fellow man?
Good looks and a sense of humor! Why? Who's asking?
What do you look for in the Pokémon with whom you bond?
Pokémon I get along with. Even if they're useful on the battlefield, if you don't get along there's no point. We have to be friends, or else it's no deal.
What do you think your Pokémon respect most about you?
Hmm... All of them look up to their big sis Excel for one reason or another. It's kind of self-centered to ask.
But if I had to guess...
[ She puts a finger to her lip, thinking a bit. Then she smiles. ]
My sense of humor, my sharp mind and how loyal I am.
You are alone and bereft of your Pokémon allies; upon what strengths do you rely on to see yourself safely home?
I can use my training to get back. I'd find a good vantage point, read the stars, things that heroes do. A girl's always got to be prepared, so I would have my pack with me. That would keep me going for a few days, at least. And failing that, I could hunt and forage. I'm confident I could make it back.

- Valor: Causes the next attack to deal 200% damage.
- Assail: The target can use any attacks other than MAP attacks (attacks that ignore range and can kit anywhere) after moving.
- Love: The user gains the effects of Accelerate (increase move by 3), Strike (next attack has 100% chance to hit the enemy; Alert and Lucky may still cause the attack to miss
and every ajsdhfahsdf-ing boss is basically guaranteed to both of these and it sucks), Alert (avoid the next enemy attack), Valor, Spirit (+10 Will), Effort (double exp on your next attack) and Lucky (dodge an enemy attack and, if the unit chooses, counterattack without penalty) - Hit & Away: Allows the target to move after attacking
